b is for behind....

so today was the first day of a preschool type thing that some friends and i are doing with our kids. they are doing it more often then me, i am just taking carson when i can. today we learned about the letter b. suffice it to say that carson is behind. obviously we need to step it up at home. we need to work on primarily talking, following directions and sitting still. i have always thought about putting carson on a schedule but never followed through. don't get me wrong, carson is a bright kid - very interested in things, animated beyond all get out, can follow directions when he feels like it and knows how to manipulate anyone to get what he wants...but he sets his own schedule and does what he wants. the kid goes to bed way later then he should and has no set time for anything. that will be changing. i am sure a schedule, routine and some focused time on coloring/reading etc. will help out a lot. i am beginning to feel behind in every aspect of my life. my child is behind developmentally, i am behind in school, work, losing weight, finding a husband etc. guess i better start on the catch-up pronto. i usually enjoy a challenge.

pics from todays preschool...

also - cars and i did his 18 month photos a while ago with a photographer/friend of ours. i finally got around to ordering, framing and hanging them up. not a permanent hanging job, but wanted to get them on the wall and off the floor...one thing to cross of my "you are behind" list.

  1. You're a great mom! Believe me, it's not typical for an almost-two-year-old to know the alphabet. However, if you are concerned about his speech development, contact early childhood intervention (ECI). They will do a free evaluation to see if he would qualify for services. The best part is that they come to your home and work with your schedule. Let me know if you want their number or more info on developmental "red flags."

  2. I second the ECI reference. They helped Adam a ton! When we called at age 2, he was only saying 15-20 words and was 4 months behind in language development.
