i have a lot of habits i would like to renounce and a list of ones i want to acquire. the next 30 days are a makeover for me. i have a lot of quotes on my fridge and a couple have been standing out to me....
- character is the ability to follow through with the objective long after the original motivation has passed.
- you can live the impossible dream, or you can live the excuse, it's all up to you.
- our lives our what our thoughts create.
- we are not measured by the trials we meet, but how we overcome.
- to accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
- when you are average, you are just as close to the bottom as you are to the top.
i need a 180. (i hate when people say 360, cause that places you in the same direction you were going) i need a change. i feel like i have been too busy for everything. that being too busy is my excuse. i have let friendships lapse, the health of my body decline, my productive routine and relationship with my Father in Heaven fall to the wayside.
my dad once showed me one of his many object lessons. he had a jar and various things to put in it.
large rocks representing the main priorities in life. God, family/relationships, job/financial security, health, serving others etc. then gravel or little rocks that represented the second most important things - enriching your mind, developing talents, learning new things etc. then sand for things with lesser importance. good but not better or best things to do with your time. like watching movies, tv shows, shopping, facebooking, re-reading books i have read a billion times, alphabetizing my movies etc. if you filled the jar up with the sand first, then the gravel, there will be no room for the rocks.
but if you put the rocks in, then the gravel, then the sand. the gravel fills up the room left from the rocks, then the sand fills up all the little cracks. and all of it fits.
i need to re-adjust my priorities. i need to determine what are my good, better, best things. gotta put the rocks in first.
i have heard it takes 30 days to make a habit. i can do this.
